Replacing a toilet properly means more than swapping the pan. Our plumbers fit close-coupled, back-to-wall, wall-hung and rimless WCs across London, adapting the soil connection, isolating and re-plumbing the supply, sealing the pan to the floor and leaving the bathroom clean. Old suites are removed and disposed of responsibly.

Choosing the right toilet
Close-coupled WCs are the simplest and cheapest to replace and are ideal for a like-for-like swap. Back-to-wall units hide the cistern inside furniture and are easier to clean. Wall-hung pans give the most floor space and the cleanest look but need a supporting frame fixed to a solid wall or a properly built stud. Rimless pans are worth the small premium in rentals because they are far easier to keep hygienic.
How the installation works
We isolate the water, drain and remove the old suite, then check the soil connection height and offset. A flexible or offset pan connector is fitted where the new pan sits differently, the supply is re-run to a new isolation valve, and the pan is screwed and sealed to the floor rather than relying on silicone alone. The cistern is set up, the flush volume adjusted, and everything leak-tested under pressure.
Water isolated and old suite removed cleanly
Soil connection adapted to the new pan position
New isolation valve and supply pipework
Pressure test, flush adjustment and silicone finish
Wall-hung and concealed cistern work
A wall-hung installation needs a rigid support frame bolted to the structure, correct height setting for the pan, and access to the cistern for future maintenance. We build the frame, plumb the concealed cistern, and leave a serviceable inspection panel behind the flush plate — a detail cheap installations skip, which turns a simple future repair into a tiling job.
Landlords and multiple properties
For letting agents and landlords we standardise on robust, easily serviced models with widely available spares, so a future fault means a five-minute part swap rather than a whole new suite. Multiple installations across a portfolio are scheduled together and priced accordingly.

What does a plumber charge to fit or replace a toilet?
Toilet fitting is priced around the job, not just the new pan. Installing a WC in a new position, replacing an existing toilet and repairing a cistern are different scopes. We provide a fixed quote once the toilet type, connections and access are confirmed; there is no verified standard installation, replacement or repair price published on this page.
Installation vs replacement vs repair pricing
Compare like-for-like quotes. Labour-only fitting of a toilet you have bought is different from a supply-and-fit package. The quote should identify the suite, pan connector, isolation valve, fittings, labour, removal and disposal, and making good where applicable. Ask whether VAT is included and whether any additional work will need separate approval.
New toilet installation
Quote for the toilet, a suitable water supply and soil connection, fixing, testing and any frame or enclosure. A new position can require additional pipework and access work.
Like-for-like replacement
Quote for removal, checking existing connections, fitting the replacement, adjustments and testing. An accessible close-coupled swap is a different scope from a wall-hung conversion.
Toilet or cistern repair
Quote for diagnosis and the required parts, such as a fill valve, flush mechanism or seal. Compare repair with replacement only after identifying the fault and parts availability.
How long will the plumber be on site?
Our existing installation guidance allows two to three hours for a straightforward replacement. A wall-hung unit with a new support frame usually takes most of a day. These are job-planning estimates, not guaranteed finish times or fixed-price labour packages. Damaged fittings, inaccessible valves or changes to the soil connection can extend the work.
A new installation involving a different toilet position, concealed pipework or finishing work needs its own schedule. A repair also depends on diagnosis, access and the correct parts. We confirm the expected scope and any return visit rather than assigning every repair an unsupported standard duration. Tell us if the property has only one toilet so the temporary loss of use can be planned.
Close-coupled vs wall-hung: what changes the quote?
A close-coupled toilet has an accessible cistern attached to the pan. Where the replacement fits the existing space and connections, fewer alterations may be needed. Back-to-wall models require access to the concealed cistern and pipe connections; furniture or panels can affect how the work is carried out.
A wall-hung toilet needs a suitable support frame fixed to the structure, a concealed cistern and a way to service it later. Frame installation, wall preparation, enclosure and tiling are different from connecting a floor-standing WC. Agree who is responsible for these stages and whether the quote is for plumbing alone or the complete finish.
Soil pipe access and other cost factors
The height, direction and condition of the existing soil connection determine whether a new pan can connect without alteration. Moving the outlet or opening a boxed-in pipe adds work. Water isolation, worn supply fittings, uneven flooring and the position of the existing fixings also affect the installation scope.
Photographs of the current toilet and visible connections help us assess the work, but hidden conditions may still need an inspection. Send the model details if you are supplying the new WC. Ask for confirmation of removal and disposal, testing, sealant work and any making good. If the issue is a blocked toilet or a concealed-cistern fault, tell us before booking replacement so the appropriate service can be assessed.
How much does a plumber charge to install a toilet?
We provide a fixed quote after confirming the WC type, water supply, soil connection and access. There is no verified standard fitting price published here. Ask whether the quote is labour-only or includes supply, fittings, disposal, making good and VAT.
Does replacing a toilet cost less than a new installation?
An accessible like-for-like replacement may need fewer alterations than installing a toilet in a new position. However, damaged connections, a different pan outlet or a wall-hung conversion change the scope, so compare itemised quotes rather than assuming a fixed difference.
Is repairing a toilet cheaper than replacing it?
A replaceable valve or seal may allow the existing toilet to remain, but diagnosis, parts availability and access determine the repair quote. We assess the fault before comparing repair with replacement; no fixed repair price is published here.
How long does toilet replacement take?
A straightforward replacement takes two to three hours in our existing guidance. A wall-hung unit with a new frame usually takes most of a day. These are planning estimates; altered soil pipes, difficult access and finishing work may require longer.
Why can a wall-hung toilet cost more to fit?
It requires a suitable structural support frame, concealed cistern, pipe connections and future service access. Enclosure and tiling may also be needed. Confirm these items in the quote rather than comparing it with a simple close-coupled swap.
